I've never been able to make silver BC. As far as I know, the only way to do this is to allow the BC to crust, then paint it on with a mixture of lusterdust & alcohol (vanilla extract or vodka--it evaporates). I tried this once because I wanted gold BC, but couldn't get the right effect. If you mix the lusterdust into the BC, it disappears.
someone gave me a recipe for silver gel. I, too, need to have the writing in silver. when I asked how to do this, they gave me the recipe. I'll see if I can find the post and get the link to you.
someone suggested doing the writing in royal, painting it w/ luster dust and then transferring it. I couldn't imagine transferring writing.
For gel colors, just mix in enough silver or gold luster dust until you reach the desired color. As far as I knew, the only way to get the silver or gold sheen onto a bc cake was to airbrush it on. Luster dust disolves into bc and even painting it on won't give you the same effect. Granted, I don't use a crusting bc, so it would be interesting to hear someone else's opinion that may have tried this with success or not.
here's the link I was talking about. You use piping gel, but because it also has pdrd sugar in it, seems like it will be more like an icing than a gel. haven't tried it yet, but I'm praying it will work for my silver writing.
good luck. if you do it any time soon and use this recipe, let me know how it comes out.
