I am making my brother's 30th birthday cake in a month's time and he has requested a chocolate cake with a fudgy, but not too heavy texture. I have some great chocolate cake recipes, but none of them are fudgy and I made Nati's Chocolate Mud cake a while ago, which was delicious and had a fudgy consistency, but was too heavy for what he wants!

Anyone know how to give a cake that fudgyness without it being too heavy?

TIA

Kelly

I like this cake on the Allrecipes site. It is my husband's favorite cake. All you need to add to it is a chocolate glaze.

That recipe looks great (it even has the chocolate chips in that he also wants!). Just one question, do I have to make it in a bundt pan ( I don't have one!)?

I'm sure you can bake that cake in layers. It sounds very similar to the Darn Good Chocolate Cake recipe. I don't know if it would be fudgy enough, but I really like the Killer Chocolate Cake recipe on this site. Very moist and chocolately.

I think it would be fine in a layer cake. It is very, very chocolately.

How about Toba Garrett's chocolate fudge recipe, I'm sure it's on here somewhere (I tried doing a search and couldn't find it. If I were at home I'd PM the recipe to you). It's my favorite, super fudgy, it's heavy, but fudgy to me means a bit on the heavy side. Not sure if it's lighter than mud cake though because I haven't tried it.

Thanks for the recipe suggestions JenniferL and Sugarbunz! I'll try them out in the next couple of weeks. I'm sure one of them will fit the bill!
