You can carve your shape you want for a purse and ice in buttercream ... no problem. I have seen some people make their purse handle using ribbon or real wooden purse handles. I would say for all of the fun details, fondant would look the best. Have you tried the MMF recipe on this site? It is really easy and taste good too. Good luck!

The purse cake in my pictures is iced in buttercream but the accents are fondant. You could use candy pieces for accents and maybe licorice for handles. You can make a real simple 3D purse cake by slicing a round cake in half but the two halves together and putting the flat edge on the board. (did that make since?)

Good luck purse cakes are fun to make.

I've even used necklaces from the party favor aisle for a strap on little girl purses! I love abbey's suggestion to use candy to decorate, the possibilities are endless!

Don't be afraid to try fondant eventually! It's really just like edible play dough, and very easy to work with!

Thanks everyone! I going to try to make the purse using candy for the handle. This should be fun! icon_biggrin.gif

When I become a little braver I will try fondant. I did see the MMF recipe.
