Hello,

I am thinking of taking a class with Nixcholas Lodge at Wilton and am wondering if anyone has taken a class with him and how you liked it. Thanks for your input.

I took a 2 day GP class with him and it was amazing! Well worth the money. It was a pretty fast pace but I was able to keep up even though it was my first time. His classes are terrific!

Hmmm, funny! I took that class too! It did go by really fast, but I am so glad I bought the DVDs while I was there, they have helped "refresh" from time to time. I cant wait for him to come back to the NW to take another class.

Hey! That is a good question! I would love to know too, since I should have bought them all while I was in class. I have forgotten quite a few things and would love to pick up the rest of the DVD's available. I have browsed on his website but didnt see them for sale; maybe I missed them?

Loved his class, absolutely! He is a great instructor, patient and friendly. He doesn't let you go until he is sure you understand and can recreate the flower or technique on your own. His shop is filled with so many wonderful things that you will want to buy, save up and bring money with you! His life partner Scott is so sweet and a great cook, has a continental breakfast each day and makes a cooked lunch every day, included in the price of the class. We had a gentle rain one day at the end of class, he insisted on driving me to the motel so I wouldn't get wet, even though it was just across the street and within walking distance. You will learn so much and you will never be sorry you took the class.

Does he ever travel and give classes or do you have to fly down and attend his shop?

I wish I was able to learn from some of the pros.... but with little ones at home I just can't get away. Maybe in another 10 years....

I have taken several NL classes. He has the friendliest staff and Nicholas is very approachable. I am fortunate enough to live 1/2 hour away from his studio/store. But it is very unfortunate for my wallet. icon_smile.gif

I was just at the Michigan Great Lakes mini classes and Nicholas Lodge taught several mini classes. I took a 4 hr class and he taught us how to make a mini Under the Sea cake. The class was very fast paced for me only because I am a beginner. It was one of the best classes I took there He makes sure everyone understands. I would say the thing to practice before taking his class is rolling and fitting the sausage size fondants in different molds. thats what I had the most trouble with only because of inexperience. I have a couple of his DVDs and I would definitely recommend them if you cannot affort the classes. They are very detailed and show everything step by step. As mentioned previously, all of his staff are very friendly and helpful.....

I just had my first class with him at the Great Lakes Mini Classes too, the Whimsical Topsy-Turvey, and it was my favorite class all weekend. He does go fast, but the way the class is set up, you actually get to finish a project instead of just doing random practice things. It felt good to come away with a finished piece. And, he is very nice and genuinely helpful.

His teaching/traveling schedule is on his website.

If you're looking at his week long class this August at Wilton, I took the same class last summer--you can see pics of the flowers I made in my photos.

The class is well worth the money and you'll learn so much. They're having it off-site this time--at the Marriott Hickory Ridge, I believe--and I hear that the facility is very nice.

Make sure that you take plenty of $, or a credit card, because he'll have all kinds of supplies for sale, too icon_lol.gif

I have three of his DVDs and he is a wonderful teacher. He shows each step in detail. The thing I like about the DVDs is that you can stop them and back up if you don't totally get a step. Buy them! They are well worth it. I still want to take a class with him though.
