I have received this email. It's from a friend (fairly distant friend) who wants me to do their wedding cake. I agreed to do it so long as I have total control over design, however I did ask her to suggest some colours. Here is her reply:

"We would love it if you could make us something and we love all of your
designs so just go crazy!
We're having deepest raspberry pinky-red to brighten up the boys and
the bridesmaid will be in black and raspberry. If you do anything shiny,
silver would be better than gold. Don't limit yourself tho, There'll
be a bit of green in my bouquet flowers and if there are any flowers on
the tables they'll have green stems obviously... Blooming heck I sound
like Bride-zilla!!"

Hmmm. I'm not inspired by the colours - raspberry and black. If I used raspberry I'd want to team with a deep burnt orange or gold. So I've been given this lovely opportunity to do something in whatever style and design I like - but I have no ideas as the colour combo isn't doing anything for me! Argh! What to do!

The invitation to 'go crazy' is just wonderful - it's just the colours...

I think you should run with it......What about going more towards the black/silver combination and just use a little raspberry for accent? You are an awesome cake artist. I know you will come up with something beautiful and unique!!

Of course I cant remember where but I have seen a few cakes with these colors, the cakes are stacked raspberry color with intricate black piping, in the "indian" way of decorating. Absolutely stunning. I'll keep looking.

I think another style that would lend itself to those colors is quilling. Duff Goldman has a pix on his site www.charmcitycakes.com, the cake is in his gallery called "Mendhi" it gives you an idea of the Bendi style however this one is not as pretty as some I have seen.

When I got married my colors where deep metallic copper and ivory (the groomsmen wore black tuxes with copper vests) and our florist was also doing my cake. She used burnt orange, dark yellow and burgandy and it came out gorgeous!! The added colors really accented the whole thing. Our cake was ivory with all the different colored flowers and stems around it. I gave her complete reign on the cake and we couldn't be happier. If you've used these colors or similar colors before on cakes maybe you could send her an email with pics of them in it. Kind of feel the situation out. At least find out if those are the only colors you can use.

Just my 2 cents! icon_redface.gif

Thankls for the help everyone - and the picture ideas. I've emailed asking if I can have a say in the colours used providing I use raspberry as the main colour. I also got a flower arranging book out as it's all about colour combining so I can get some ideas - I'm thinking raspberry, lilac and green. I've also asked if I can do it in fruit rather than sponge, that way I get to work on it for ages rather than try and get it all done in two days. Should be fun!

Black, raspberry, and silver sound like a wonderful color combo to me. icon_biggrin.gif
Do raspberry for the main color, and do brush emmbroidery style accents with the black and silver.

This may be too late but she mentioned green as a color in the bouquet.... I would think a deep raspberry color with accents of white and green would be really pretty.

I've managed to get her down to raspberry pink and I get to choose all other colours. So it turns out it was an exciting gift and not a bridezilla approaching! I'm very excited about it now, she even said I could do a fruit cake which means I'll probably work on it for a month or so to get it perfect. I'm a happy cake lady!
