I am short of 2 things: A heart - shaped pan and fondant. How do I make a cake the shape of a heart with an arrow going through it? I know I can cut the shape myself but how do I do the arrow part? I have no idea what to do or how to pull this off? I need you all's help!
you could cut out the arrow too...or use fondant and mold the arrow?
I didn't think of that. Should I freeze the cake before cutting it the shape I want? I don't have any fondant and I know I don't have time to order some. Is there a way that I could use royal icing for the arrow? Never used Royal Icing before either. I'm just a mess with this!
I hear that does help but if you choose not to do that I would at least wait until the cake had time to cool down and "harden" a little.......
With the arrow......
Use pastillage icing.....make an arrowhead template...then roll out your icing and place the template ontop..and cut out..lift the paste from your work board and place it on foam to dry out throughly...
Roll out some more pastillage..Make a flight template..and cut out three flights..Mark the flights with a feather effect(small lines) on each side with a craft knife..Place on the foam to dry.
To make the shaft for the base of the arrow..soften the remaining pastillage by adding some white fat to stop it sticking and boiled water to soften it...Place the pastillage inside the sugar shaper with the large round disc and squeeze out a length..Cut to 15 cm (6in) with a pair or scissors.Place on foam and straighten using a smoother..Leave to dry.
Once the arrowhead is dry, squeeze a second piece of pastillage from the sugar shaper. Roll one end to a point and then make a cut lenghtways through the point with a small pair of scissors.
Paint a line of sugar glue down the centre of each side of the arrowhead and insert the head between the cut ends of the shaft.. Cut the shaft to an overall length of 10cm (4in) and place on foam to dry...
Once the flights are dry carefully attach one to the end of the shaft for the base of the arrow. Use sugar glue and support the flight in postion while the glue dries. Once dry attach the second flight. When that has dreid positon the third....
Decide the entry and exit points of the arrow and then makes holes in the cake with a dowel before unserting the arrow sections..ensuring they look in line..
So you arrow is is two parts and you insert each end intot he cut so it looks like it is passing through the cake.......
I hope that helps
