I'm taking the fondant wilton course ... and we made a gift cake with a bow in the middle .. the instructor had us stuff the bow with paper ... I was just wondering if you had other suggestions for doing bows
If I am making the dress bow like in the Wilton Course 3, I do use paper towel or tissue paper to hold the shape while it dries. I haven't found anything to use that I like the shape of for that size bow.
Now if it is the loop bows with all the different loops I use wooden dowels I got at Michaels. I have a few different sizes I use depending on the size of the loops and the size of the bow I want.
It depends if your looking for a "natural" looking bow - kind of like a fabric made bow or if your looking for a very symetrical style bow where all the loops look identical. I use paper towels for the "natural" looking bows - I find the cotton balls sometime leave little fibers stuck to the fondant or gumpaste and they're a real PILL to pick off once it's dried. For the more symetrical bow I use pvc tubes to drape the loops over to dry. (See the bow in my pix) My DH made me a nice rack to place the tubes on for drying - kind of reminds me of a coat rack but made of small 1/2 inch dowels to place the tubes on. Works Great! Good luck ![]()
