Hi everyone,
So I'm so excited because I'm entering the PA state cake show! I've never done anything like this but since it's not judged and I have about a month to work on it, I thought what the heck? But anyway, Colette Peters is going to be there and is teaching 2 different four hour classes. WOOHOOO I of course want to take them, but I'm not sure if I should take one or both. One is on Floral Inlay and the other on Brushed Embroidery. I don't know anything on Floral Inlay so I was hoping someone on here could give me some info and/or any other info on these classes would be so helpful! Thanks!!

I don't know anything about floral inlay, but when is the PA cake show?
The PA State Cake show is in State College, PA on April 14-15, I think, I'm not completely sure of the dates but I can let you know for sure. I don't have the info with me right now but if you PM me I can email you Kim Morrisons email address, I'm pretty sure she is in charge of it. Thanks for trying to help![]()
State College is where Penn State University is and so it's pretty famous, but it isn't like a huge city or even surrounded by any big cities, but I love it. You should see where I live if you think that is in the middle of nowhere. We have to go to State College or Williamsport to do our shopping! But I think Central PA is really beautiful. We have amazing mountains, and all of my city friends love to come and say how nice it is to breath clean air and drink great tasting mountain water!
yeah, when we were there, we went into the university area to find a Panera Bread to eat at. We actually found one! I live in a beautiful are a also: the Hudson Valley in NY. Beautiful place. But, even though it's not as remote as State College, I still would love to live in a more convenient area.
Anyway.......back to the inlay flowers! Anyone answer that question yet???
heiser73 I posted the same thing on a different forum a few days ago! I want to take one of the classes but don't know which one. I'm thinking floral inlay because I wonder if brushed embroidery is that boring stuff you do in course 3 where you pipe a one dimensional flower, then drag the icing to the center with a wet paintbrush... I don't know I searched it but couldn't find the answer.
I also wanted to enter a cake but to get your ribbon/award (everyone gets one) you have to be at the awards ceremony and I won't be.
rlsaxe, what a hoot, I'm in the HV too!!!!! We've probably seen each other in the cake decorating section of AC Moore or Michaels before! LOL!![]()

Man I am envious of you!!!! I would LOVE to take classes from her!!!
Good luck and have fun...oh and take both for sure!!! How often do you get chances like this one! ![]()
eieio1234-I was thinking the same thing but then was also considering taking both since they are both pretty inexpensive considering Colette is teaching them. I'm dying to know what floral inlay is though, but regardless I think I'm going to take it. I'm going to enter a cake as well just because a lot of the people where I live shop at that mall so I'm hoping someone will see my cake and recognize my name and I'll get some business out of it. Though, I'm a little apprehensive as I know I'm not exactly to the point yet where I should be entering anything, but since its not judged I figured I would give it a shot. If I can help you out at all let me know!
jhansen13-I think you just talked me into taking both! Thanks
I'll let you know how they are!
rlsaxe, I'm in Goshen, I use the Middletown stores ![]()
heiser73, I agree, at that price take both if you can! I'm going w/my family and will break away for a class, but don't want to leave them hanging for two..... maybe we'll be in one together!
You should definitely enter! Like you said, lots of people will see your name! I know what you mean, about not being sure you're ready, but I think just the experience of entering is fun, it makes you do your best and also see how you work under pressure, etc. Plus it will be good to see your work right there so you can compare it to other's work.
In her book, Cakes to Dream On, Colette Peters decribes floral inlay on pages 45- 47. She rolls out a piece of fondant and then cuts it to shape
to use as a background. Then small pieces of multi-colored fondant are cut in the shape of flowers and then placed on top of the background. A rolling pin is then used over everything to incorporate all the pieces together. She says that she is trying to replicate the look of using stones to make an image.
Thank you all for your help. I knew someone out there had to know about floral inlay. I'm definitely taking both classes and I'm super excited! I'll let you know how it goes!! I've decided to enter two cakes so we'll see how it goes. I'm sure I'll be posting more threads asking for help!! Thanks again!!
