I was recently invited to do a bridal/wedding show in April. I'm thinking about making a fake wedding cake, although I've never made a fake cake or a wedding cake before. Any ideas, tips, or tricks? I have the styrofoam circles already, is there something I should put over them before I do the fondant? The edges of the circles are so "sharp", can I shave them so they are rounded? If so, how would I do that? Help please!! icon_confused.gif

You can cover the styro with saran so it will come off when you are finished with it. Also you will most likely want to add some type of icing underneath the fondant.

Hi ! lol were in the same place..I went to lowes and bought lightweight spackling its in with the drywall stuff. I just finished mine a little bit ago. I didn't put anything under mine. I did add water to the stuff to make it like icing consistancy. Works great and fast. Another way but really messy is using pans and using great stuff to fill them let them dry. not for sure about the shaving part mine turned out perfect. hopefully someone else has better ideas. let me know how it turns out

You could "shave" the top edges to make them more rounded. Or you can also push them against the counter to kind of squish them.

I cover mine with lightweight spackle also.

I really appreciate all the help. My "business" has been slow to take off so I'm hoping this will get me off the ground (and out of the red). I'll look for the lightweight spackling - my DH will love the trip to Home Depot. That is, until he finds out what it's for.... Thanks again!!

I use my pans upside down you cover them with a thin coat of apricot glaze and mmf my 2 tier strawberry cake was done that way. I used an edible ribbon to cover the lip on the edge of the pan.
