I just bought the Wilton Gum Paste Flower Kit. Can anyone give me any pointers on it? Tricks of the trade? Also on coloring them.
I can't wait to get started making flowers ![]()
Thanks,

I have the set and gave up trying to use it...couldn't get them to ruffle.
Guess I should pull it out and practice again ![]()
I like that idea ![]()

Need to practice on my roses or should I say cabbages ![]()
I found the roses in Wilton Course 3 much easier to make than the roses from the kit.
A friend of mine bought the Wilton Gumpaste set. We made roses together for a wedding cake last year, well, she showed me anyways! One rose took almost 20 minutes to make since it was done by the petal!!! So time consuming!
When I took course three, the roses I made were done in minutes! I literally made over 20 in under and hour and a half. They were much easier, in my opinion, with the set from the Course. Of course, it helped to have someone show you how to do it, but the book from the class does explain it fairly well.
One tip I have that I learned from my friend (who took the class on gumpaste alone over an 8 hour course!) was, when ruffling/thining the edges to get them to have a natural curl, have your ball tip tool half on the gumpaste and half on the sponge. It works really well. (I think in the Wilton class, they had us balling (I don't know the term) near the center of the petal, which left the rose with thick edges.)
Here's the Step-Saving Rose method kit.

I still need to pick up the Wilton Gumpaste kit. I'd love to make some tulips for spring ![]()
HTH!

I also bought this set and am anxious to learn to make some beautiful flowers. I did attempt the carnation, but it just wouldn't work for me. I just got an email from my last Wilton instructor and she's having the 8 hour gumpaste class in March, YIPPEE!! I can't wait to learn how to do this.
I have also just recently purchased the wilton kit...I have made some flowers, carnations, rose buds and calli lillies sprays, now all I have to do is figure out how to put them/attach them to a cake ![]()
I have this kit too. It does take me longer to make a rose with this kit than it does with the class 3 one, but I like my end results better.
I have played with carnations, rose, pea, forget-me-not, and mum.
Hey! What is up with gumpaste anyway? No one told me you weren't supposed to eat it! I just got Toba Garrett's book and Lordy Mercy Toba says NO. ![]()
