So which is better for carving? The durable cake mix recipe where you add sour cream and another egg and pudding? Or the recipe where you combine a regular cake mix and a pound cake mix - and by the way with the mix+pound recipe, do you add all the ingredients for each or do you differ the recipe when you combine them?

For the teddy bear in my gallery, I used the enhanced cake recipe and it turned out great. The only thing is, the texture is a little more brownie than cake.

so does anyone know about mixing a pound cake and regular cake mix? How do you do that? Is it firmer or better in any way than doing the durable cake recipe?

I wondered the same thing. Someone told me to use a mix and a pound cake so I assumed you would add the ingredients according to both packages. I have never tried it yet. I have several 3D pans and have never had the nerve to try one. I even bought the pound cake mix and it is still sitting in my cabinet.

Okay..........I'm determined that I am going to do this soon. icon_lol.gif

LOL I've done 3D cakes before but it's been a REALLY long time and I'm going to do a pirate ship - and hope that it goes well - but I figure I'm going to carve some. I've thought about doing the 3D ducky pan and basically cutting off the duck's head and carving a bit for that "boat" shape..... but I need to know what's the best type of cake to do with that! icon_smile.gif Still need help people! icon_smile.gif please???

I've done it both ways...I guess it depends upon the flavor you are looking for. I made a marble cake (with chocolate and pound cake) for my Robin Hood Pooh and it worked out great, but tated more likr a pound cake. The rest I have just added instant pudding and an egg and they were dense enough to be just fine. I think the biggest diff. is right after it comes out of the oven...the mixed pound cakr feels lots more stable coming out of the pan, while the durable mix doesn't feel as stable until it's cooled. Hope that helps, btw, if you use the duck pan make sure to tie it down good, that is always my prob. with that pan, it rises and lifts the top right off!
