Hi all,

I want to make a cake for my man's 40th birthday this summer, and I know I will need to practice this one! So, I thought I would ask you all for any help/tips you may be able to donate. I want to make a yacht/boat shaped cake. His dream boat is a 40' Cabo, so I thought I could give him one ... in cake! icon_smile.gif What kind of pan should I use? Any suggestions for the TYPE of cake to use? I was thinking something heavier, like a pound cake? Also, would it be easier to cover it in fondant or buttercream? I love using fondant, but I'm not very good with it yet!
I couldn't add a pic of the boat, but it's a big offshore fishing boat with a tower.
Thanks for any help!

ok...just took a look at pic of it and my first thought --

oh no! it's the boat that did in Duff in a cake challenge!!!!

main boat would just be sheet cakes stacked and carved (pound cake advisable)

upper section of main cabin -- sheet cut up and stacked in approximate shape and then carved.

all that other high flyin' stuff -- have NO idea (that's what killed duff's cake!)
