I'm no expert on mmf but on one of the wilton books it says to: thin piping gel with a small amount of water and to brush it on and immediately cover cakes with sparkling sugar, I don't see why syrup wouldn't work except I think that it would make it a little bit sweeter(mmf+syrup+sugar) this is only my opinion and like i said i have no exp on fondant so let's wait to hear from our experienced CC friends!!!!!!!!

And, coincidentally, Wilton sells piping gel.

Isn't it funny how often Wilton's advice is to use Wilton's name-brand products?

If corn syrup dries enough, it should be fine.

Thank you so much! I am using it for a sugar crusted fondant ribbon. It's so good to know I can use corn syrup, which I have on hand.
