I have bought a large pack of edible markers from kopykake but I was wondering if anyone has used crayola non-toxic markers to color details on cookies? does anyone know what the difference is between the markers?

I could be wrong but I don't think that "non-toxic" exactly means "edible". Could be a taste thing? Plus if I am going to eat it I would rather the package say "edible" instead of just "non-toxic".

i think the "non-toxic" means it wont harm your 3 year old who puts it in her mouth.. doesnt mean to consume..

I have used Roseart brand non-toxic markers to transfer and color drawings onto rice paper. I have not used the markers on cookies. I like using the non-toxic markers because they have a finer point than the food markers.

OM gosh! After reading this I may never eat anything that looks like it has been applied with some sort of marker.

I don't think you would want to take the chance of making someone ill.
Just because they are non-toxic, doesn't mean they are safe. Edible means safe to consume. Stick with edible.

For finer detail on things like rice paper, I resorted to thinning down gel paste color, and painting on with a brush. Only time I would use non-toxic markers is on something that would not be eaten.

Suela that is a great idea with the gel colors, I will have to give it a try too. Well I know that I won't even try the markers after all the comments, it was just a question to see if anyone had ever used it and what they thought of it. I love the food writers - well actually my daughter who is 7 does because any extra cookies I have, I just cover with royal then she can color them however she wants and she shares them with her friends.
I didn't think that the markers would taste that good but I have not tasted them nor have I tasted the food writers!!!

Not that I've done this----but back in the day, when I was taking my lessons, my instructor told us that using non-toxic markers & chaulk was fine. Now, personally, I would never do that because it sounds gross to me--but I don't use edible images much, either.

I do know that the chaulk you buy to do fondant, etc., with is the exact same stuff that I have in my scrapbooking bag! Gross!
