I Need A Local Cake Decorating Mentor

I am currently in my 2nd Wilton class, but I don't feel like I am getting a good decorating education. I like my teacher, but she doesn't seem to be quite as skilled as I would like to be eventually.
Anyone in the Cincinnati area who would like to help me out with techniques I can't get due to poor instruction in class? Maybe this is an odd question, but I really enjoy cake decorating, and I want to be good at it, but I know I will not get all I need from this class.

Sorry I am not in your area...but keep practicing and keep coming to cake central. YOu will learn so much from here. I took the all of the courses but between each of them I learned a lot on my own. I feel like really have learned the most from here. I know I didnt even really need to take the 3rd couse.

I wish there was someone closer to me that would be willing to let me watch at least.
but as merissa said, keep practicing and come here for tons of advice. they are very helpful! sometimes you'll find link that will do little demo, which helps a ton. good luck.
I'm in the same boat! I was calling around to local bakers to see if they did any type of mentoring on cake decorating... one said he'd think about it and one said "No, b/c after I teach you, you'd take all my business." So, I guess it depends who you talk to and what their specialty is.
I've only taken the first Wilton course, but I have learned a lot more here at CC than in there. Oh, and by trial and error! Good luck!
hey! I am in Northern Kentucky...so thats close! I agree with wanting extra help. I called the place i take wilton classed from..its called Fantasy in Frosting in Newport. I talked to the owner and she said I can come down to "shadow" while they decorate cakes. I just have to do like dishes and help out if i can in return...maybe you can try that too? But having someone else to learn off is great...maybe we could meet up?
