In class 1 of Wilton II we learned to make a mum with buttercream. Mine looked nothing like a mum. Can it be made with royal? Teacher said no, but...?

Yes, Mum's can be made with Royal Icing. In fact, I find them easier to make with RI than with Buttercream.

I have my students make the mum with the RI I make in class that first night. Also gives the students a chance to see what the consistency should be like with RI.

My students love it!

Yes, they would probably come out better in RI, at least mine did before I learned how to make them on a skewer with buttercream.

that's fso wierd because in my wilton 2 the instructor mad a batch or royal icing in the class the we all made the mum out of. She told us the for our final cake everything would be royal except the border. I tried practicing the mum when I got home and it looked much better in class with the royal.
