I hear so much about buttercream transfer but what is it? Do you trace a pictuer with piping gel then pt it on the cake and color it in o what? I would like to learn this. Is it taught in the wilton classes? Also how does everyone color in their pictures without using a tip? It looks so smooth, let me in on the secrets here ladies and gents!!! thanks ~Melissa Chaney

nope it's "frozen buttercream transfer"
You can take a page from a coloring book for instance, place it under a piece of parchment, outline the picture in black buttercream, "color" the pic with whatever colors you want (buttercream of course) then some peeps cover the back of that with the base color of the frosting on the cake. Plop that puppy in the freezer for about 30 minutes and then flip it over on the top of your cake image will be mirror of one you used though so lettering needs to be reversed to come out right. but what the hey.... here's the link to the article about it here.

Ok thank you....Just to make sure I am clear about this. I find a pic, cover it w/wax paper, outline it in black (with what size tip is good?) then put another piece of wax paper on it, and pipe it in with the colors I want? What is a good size tip for this? After I fill it in I then smooth it out??? I guess I am still REALLY REALLY CONFUSED!!!!!!!!!!! HELP

You cover your image with wax paper, and outline with black or what ever color you want to use. The tip size can vary depending on how thick of an outline you want. You can use anything from a 1-3. At this point you will fill in the outline with the other colors. Tip size doesn't matter here. I have used anywhere from 3 to 10 depending on what size the transfer is.

I usually place a second piece of wax paper over the whole thing before I put it in the freezer, so I can smooth the bottom side out.
