I made a 8X10 of a FBCT. What is the best way to get it on the cake without breaking it? What are your FBCT tricks?
Thanks!! icon_biggrin.gif

I"ve not done too many of them yet but haven't had any break on me yet. The ones I have done have been pretty big. I just put a nice coat of BC over the back and let it freeze really well. It kind of glues the seams. I would be really carefull with a FBCT that size. Make sure you keep some kind of support in the middle. Good luck! Be sure to post a pic!! Anna

I made an 11X15 FBCT...my first one--I know, I'm nuts!!!
Made it and let it freeze overnite.
Then with the cake positioned at the level of the freezer shelf...I picked up both corners and quickly flipped it over onto the cake. Then moved the cake to the freezer shelf (large upright freezer) and carefully peeled off the wax paper.

That was some kind of brave...I was feeling right cocky about it, too. The next FBCT I did was smaller and did not do as well. I have since learned how to do them.

Wow How brave are YOU!!! thumbs_up.gif
I took a peek at mine and I don't like it. It is mostly lettering with some shading. Do you use a thin or med. thickness for your transfers?

The first couple I did, they "sat" on top of the cake, and I really don't like that look, so since then I have been doing a FBCT that covers the entire cake, so they end up being pretty big. I make sure that I have a nice layer of bc on the back, that they are good and frozen and lately I have been doing them on one of the flexible cutting boards, which makes it a cinch to flip over onto the cake. HTH!

Thanks! Do your lines mess up when you cover the back of it? Mine do! icon_sad.gifI'm thinking of useing med. bc to try it.

Sorry mareg--
Just got online this AM. I use a medium thick BC for the outline. You might try to outline and then freeze that before filling in to see if that will keep your lines from spreading. just a thought.

When I am done filling in, I put it in the freezer for about 45 minutes, then I put a layer of BC on it and then freeze it again for at least an hour. That way, I make sure that my outlines won't move. Anna

Those are great tips!! Anna and Mac. I think I will thicken them up and freeze before putting on the back layer.

My largest FBCT (Marine Corps emblem) was done on wax paper versus parchment paper. The wax paper sticks to the FBCT, so you can put the FBCT on the cake and then peel the wax paper off. You can hold the edges of the wax paper (image face up) to position the FBCT in place. Then just lower the image onto the cake, and peel off. The weight of the FBCT may start coming off of the wax paper, so be careful when you're positioning the image. My emblem was pretty thick (at least 1/8"). Just make sure that you evenly ice the back of the FBCT so that it's not bumpy when it starts to defrost.

Yes, when you take it out of the freezer the first time to ice the back,be sure to put wax paper over the fresh layer of BC, then smooth it out with your finger. That will help ensure an even coat so it will lay flat on your cake. Anna
