KathyKakes - It is a small world! I do not belong to the SDCC yet, I have been wanting to join but felt intimidated since I have only been decorating cakes since last Feb. I am thinking about coming to April's meeting and seeing what it is like. Everyone at the show was so nice it seems like a great group of people.
Brandi - I can't believe anyone would have anything negative to say about your cake. Your win was well deserved!
Hey Brandi!!!!! I loved your Angel cake. It sat next to mine on the Best of Show table! CONGRATULATIONS on your win in the PROFESSIONAL category!
What in the world would qualify "bashing"??? Why would someone who did a demo say that either. I know most of the women of the cake club, not the newer members but those that have been around for years. I am appalled for you!!!!! The colors in your design made it look like marble. The colors were so soft. Truely unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, all you SD people, my sister lives in new Scripps Ranch right next door to Poway! What a small world!!! I would be a member but I live out of state! Linda and Amy call me an honorary member!!!!
It was a wonderful show everyone! So who's thinking about next year?
Don't throw things at me!!!!! ![]()

To Brandi- I agree with everyone else. Your cake was truly amazing. I made all my friends who came to the show specifically look at your cake and marvel at the modelling/sculpture work you did. I hate to think of anyone bashing it! Your win was well deserved.
To Indigojods- I just moved to the area in October from Boston. I've only been decorating a little over a year myself and it seems newcomers in every skill level are always coming to cake club. Skill level does not matter. All are welcome- truly. I've had a wonderful time meeting fellow decorators and I'd love to meet you, too! Please come to the April meeting!
To Cakemommy- I found out at last month's meeting that your sister is a "neighbor" of mine! It wasn't until last month that I actually got to meet her and confess to her that I'm one of her groupies! Her work astounds me. I'm in awe of her talent (like I am with soooo many of you!!)
Well, it was basically along the lines of "Those are NOT hand modelled figures..." said with a sneer. You know the tone, right?
I've spent a LOT of money learning how to sculpt and thought that was my strong point - which is why I entered what I did. So for several people to insinuate that I somehow "cheated" (right in front of me, no less) really bothered me.
Thanks everyone for the compliments. I thought it turned out pretty good myself. There were a few points when I thought I was never going to be able to pull off what I had in mind, but I must say I surprised myself. Granted, it wasn't as good as I imagined, but it wasn't as bad as it could've been either.
KathyKakes - Thanks for the encouragement! Now I am looking forward to going. How many people are usually there?
Indigojods- most meetings typically between 20-30 people are present. There have been new people at every meeting I've attended since November. Some are beginners in the truest sense of the word- only one or two classes under their belts but simply enjoy it and want to belong to the community of decorators. Others are "old pro's." But as I said, everyone is welcome regardless of skill level or background. I'm looking forward to meeting you at the next meeting!
KathyKakes - thanks for the info. I will see you soon!
Brandi, I know I'm missing something here... I can't seem to find the pic of your cake. I'm feeling kind of dumb since everyone else seems to have seen it. ![]()
peacockplace - Here is the pic I took of Brandi's beautiful cake:
