Well I dropped off a cake at my daughter's school today it was a 10" double layer vanilla with buttercream dream and it was gone in no time...now this is the icing I have been using most of my days at cake decorating anyways I always get good comments or no comments on it but one of the teachers which whom I am close to told me the cake was good! and then she said the icing was sweet in a good way but was sweet then she tried to fix it or kind take it back cause I asked about it I asked if it was too much icing and she no it was just sweet I really want to improve my cakes anyways may be she tought I was gonna get offended she tried to say that it was in a good way so now I'm thinking is the buttercream dream too sweet and I just don't notice it? Has anyone had any complaints or did this lady had too many sweets for breakfast?

my boyfriend doesn't like the buttercream dream recipe, but I don't know why, I think it's great. He likes the BC with all crisco better. People have their own preferences, and you can't please everyone. Choose an icing that you love, and tell people that you love it. chances are they'll love it too.

I think that it is impossible to please everyone in life. Let the majority rule on this one. If most people like your icing then I wouldn't worry about the few who don't. There are some people out there who just don't like sweet things at all and will find things too sweet that others don't think are sweet.

I only use Buttercream dream but for my tastes it is to sweet but I get nothing but great compliments on it so I continue to use it, its all in what you like some prefer the sweet sweet and some such as myself prefer a more buttery buttercream. Can't please them all!

Okay, so here is my thought. One week I made a babyshower cake and used the same white cake receipe I always use, the same BC I always use and the same MMF I always use. My whole family always loves it. This time though, it was soooo very sweet that it was hard to eat. I think maybe the powdered sugar was different in some way. The cake was fine, it doesn't call for powdered sugar, but the icing and MMF were horribly sweet and I am a sugar addict.

I thin mine out with heavy cream and it seems to cut down on the sweetness. That is my favorite frosting though.
