I'd have to say around $50. Don't under estamate yourself.

Do you use cake mixes or scratch?

I would say the lowest I would go would be $1.50/serving and $5.00 for the bow. So that comes to about $41 if you count on 24 servings.

I use a mix as a base but add puddings/flavorings substitute applesauce for oil etc. to make them palatable and healthier.

Thanks so much!

I love to do these but dont have a clue how to price 'em.

I would say $45 to $50. She certainly wouldn't get a cake like that anywhere else! (especially not Walmart!)

Sit down one day and make a list of everything you use to make your cakes. Every ingerdient you use in the cake and the icing. Then take that list to the store and write down the regular/non sale prices of everything you use.

Now figure out how much it costs you to make a basic cake (what ever your average cake mix will make). This requires a little math, but you only to do it ever so often. I would say once, but prices go up on products sometimes and you need to include that.

Don't forget to include the costs of your boards and boxes and such.

This will let you know how much you are spending per cake mix when doing a cake. To this I usually round up and add a few dollars. (For those things you use but don't have to buy ever time, like icing colors, and decorating bags.)

Now the general rule is that you take that figure and multipy it by 3. 1/3rd to replensh your supplies. 1/3 for things like electricty. 1/3 for your time. If you feel that is a little high for you, depending on where you live you can go down a little. I would never do a cake for less than x2 of how much it costs you. I usually do about x2.5 (since my cakes are for friends and family).

Don't forget to add in extra when you do extra things, such as fondant bows or other things that take more time and supplies.

When you know how much it costs you per mix it gives you a better idea on pricing. And if I know the by mix cost then I just keep in mind how many mixes I will use when I do the price.

I agreee, the x 3 method was recommended to me and it seems to work well, on some cakes it can be a bit pricey so I sometimes bring them down to 2.5 or 2 but never any lower than that.
