I have been researching and reading old posts on how to do chocolate transfers. I think I am starting to understand but how do you color the chocolate? I've never messed with it so I don't know what kind of chocolate you use??

Thanks!!

You can buy special coloring for chocolate. I believe Wiltons is called Candy Colors. I'm pretty sure Americolor has some too. They are oil-based, not water-based. I've heard you can also use regular food color if you add a drop or two of oil, but I haven't tried that myself. You can also used the colored candy melts if that's easier for you.

Americolor makes a product called FloCoat that you can add to the melted chocolate and then add your regular colors. You can also buy colors made to color candy but I prefer to use the colors I already have. I have also added a bit of solid crisco to my chocolate while it's melting and it seems to help to prevent the chocolate from seizing but not always.

For most colors I use my regular icing colors gels or paste and I add paramount crystals or crisco, for black which I use alot of I use black candy color gel or paste, for dark blue, red and green it is best to use candy colors. I dont care for the pre-colored wafers, they never seem to melt right for me. Once you try CT's I know you will be hooked.

I find it much much easier to buy the candy melts in all of the colors. You can mix them to make other colors too! Only when I have to do I use the candy colors. It is just extra work and it can be messy (epecially the wilton kind) Chefmasters candy colors comes in a squeeze bottle so that makes it a little better. I got it from country kitchens. I do agree you will be hooked!
