Good Filling For Chocolate Cake?
Decorating By toddsgirl Updated 27 Jan 2006 , 10:28pm by bubblezmom
I use a doctored cake mix recipe that I love for Chocolate cake but I don't really have a good filling for it. I have used peanut butter buttercream and that is good but a lot of people don't want peanut butter and I am looking for just a good chocolate or caramel filling. Does anyone have one they would be willing to share? Thanks.
a choc mousse is great.... but I found that if I added a tres leches mixture to the chocolate cake you dont need a filling, but mousse would make it devine I think!
Here is my favorite Chocolate filling, it is a chocoalte mousse and can be served on it's own as well with some whipped cream, but it out of this world used as a filling!
Chocolate Mousse
2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
2 large fresh egg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup heavy cream, heated
Place chocolate chips, egg and vanilla into the container of electric blender and blend for 30 seconds.
Remove center of blender lid and while machine is running, slowly pour heated cream into the chocolate mixture. Blend until well mixed and chocolate chips are melted.
Refrigerate until set.

see!!!!!!!!!! by the way that looks like what I have used before, it is good isnt it?
The only problem with it, is I want to eat it all before I get it in the cake!
yeah tell me about it~~~ my will power is nonexistent! ![]()
flav,
What do you mean by adding a tres leches mixture to the chocolate cake? Do you pour the milks over the cake or turn the milks into a filling?
Can't figure this one out. ![]()
Whipped Ganache
I've used caramel ice cream topping, which works good as long as it is a thick on. I've also used condenced milk to make Dulce De Leche, which is good in chocolate cake too.
You can also use strawberry and/or raspberry preserves.

Do you have to refrigerate the cake as well after you have filled it?
I do refrigerate this filling,as it has eggs and cream in it.

I know how to make tres leches, but if you pour tres leches milks over a regular chocolate cake you'd just get mush. It'd be tasty mush though. ![]()
