Mixing Purple Frosting

HELP!!! I've tried twice to mix up a small amt of bright purple (think Barney the Dinosaur) and all I come up with is a dull purple color, almost like a deep mauve. I started by coloring my white BC red, then adding sm amts of blue (royal). Please help?!

I just buy the purple coloring and be done with it! Then, if you run out, you can always re-create the color you need.

Try making a small batch of white icing and mixing it in. If you lighten / brighten up the purple you may get the shade you are after. I think there may be a tiny bit of yellow in that purple too. But start with adding the white.

Who makes purple? All I seem to find is violet?

Purple is best made, I think, with pink and blue. The red just doesn't give a nice color.

it works better if your icing was made with milk instead of water

I found a 3rd color mixing chart which said to mix 1 part sky blue and 6 parts bakers rose. Worked like a charm!

Look at your kid's crayons, Purple and Violet are the same color.
