I am interested in painting on fondant, but am not sure how to do it. I know I can use water or alcohol, but do I use powder food coloring, liquid or gel? And how much of each? Thanks!

Some people use luster dusts with alcohol added to it (like everclear) and paint on with that, others have used cocoa powder.
You can also use frosting and make it look like embroidery.

I have read most recommend using some type of liquid that evaporates quickly, so it does not leave your fondant gummy. Something like vodak, everclear, or lemon extract. Here is a link to a previous post that has a lot of nice links from JanH=)
