I didn't call. Just looked at the prices on-line. It is pricey but it's because it's organic. I wasn't shocked probably because I expected it to be more expensive and I'm not concerned about buying organic! icon_lol.gif

It would be great for a shop trying to specialize in organic cakes-hey new niche market for you RB! Is there a big natural consumer market in Miami? Ok, you've got the vanilla-go raise some free range chickens and you're all set! icon_lol.gif

That's a good price even if you consider I'm comparing US $ to Can $.

I paid $18 Can for a 4oz bottle of good pure vanilla extract + 14% tax and it wasn't even organic.

I didn't see where you could get free samples. Must have been looking in the wrong place!

Why do some of these threads start like the beginning of the conversation was done elsewhere? I wait for the topic to come up and it is something that seems ongoing like this one yes I am on the first page?
You can get organic vanilla in any health food store and you can also get it without alcohol in it if you desire. It is not cheap.
But if you have snow birds for relatives that go to Mexico and visit the south west ask them to bring some back.
You can get some wonderful pure vanillas with no sugar added and no alcohol too depending on your brand. A 40ML bottle is less than $3.00
My aunt brings me a bottle of clear and reg. each year. Great stuff and very flavourful.

I understand the last part of your post...about where else to get vanilla...I mean if we all had relatives that travel South to Mexico or tropical places and we want to wait for out vanilla, I guess..that YES ..you can ask them to bring us back some, and hope that Homeland Security doesn't freak out with the new restrictions that you can't carry liquids or the bottle doesn't break in the luggage.... icon_surprised.gif

and if everyone has a Health food store nearby and can have access to the Organic, Health Store Vanilla...I can see that ordering it online or through the mail and having it delivered to the door would be a terrible inconvenience for some! icon_cry.gif

and getting a free sample before you buy so you can decide if a product is worth you spending money on is the policy of MANY companies that sell flavor extracts and is not something new... thumbs_up.gif

But what are you trying to say with the comment that you posted and I quoted? Can you explain what you mean or what you are feeling and why are you saying that? icon_cool.gif ?

If you needed some clarification on my post...I would've been MORE than happy to do that for you thumbs_up.gif with pleasure!!!

Without getting too off track there is some concern about Mexican vanilla and you have to ensure that it comes from a reputable source. From Wikipedia:

Mexican vanilla, also made of Vanilla planifolia, is produced in much less quantity and marketed as the vanilla from the land of its origin. Sometimes vanilla sold in tourist markets around Mexico is not actual vanilla extract, but in fact mixed with an extract of the tonka bean which contains coumarin. While tonka bean extract smells and somewhat tastes like vanilla, coumarin has been shown to cause liver damage in lab animals and is banned in the US by the Food and Drug Administration.

Blah, blah, blah on all that other stuff. Good prices for sure- especially considering it's organic- but how can you get a free sample? I'm telling you, I looked through the site, but I didn't see it! ;o)

LOL, I guess that would be JUST THAT SIMPLE!!!!! Duh, why didn't I think of that. Sometimes it sucks to have grown up in the era of "where's the button I click to make it happen, and what do you mean I have to actually do it on my own?"

Oh and the blah, blah, blah part of my first response wasn't directed at you. I realized later when I read that, you might have seen it that way.

Be careful buying Vanilla extract from Mexico. Some Mexican Vanilla extracts not only contain Tonka but other carcinogens as well. (Cancer causing agents).
