Has anyone shipped a cake thru the mail? I would love to make one for my mother in law and mail it to her for her birthday but won't do it if there is a good chance it will get ruined. Thanks!

I've never done it, but I've read some cake sites that do. I think they freeze the cake solid and then ship it overnight (well packed). You can also buy dry-ice to pack it in. I've often thought that a simple fondant cake would ship well unfrozen.

I'd love to hear from some experienced people too!

That is what I was thinking about sending, just a small fondant.

I sent a cake to my mother-in-law, in fact. We're in PA and she's in TX. It was a fondant cake like a present. I wrapped it and wrapped it in plastic wrap. Found a box that fit the cake board perfectly, so it wouldn't jostle during travel...or so I hoped. Then the shipping place put bubble wrap all around and in the box.

I am told....it was good except one whole corner of the cake was smashed. She had said she took a pic and would send it so I would know what the damage looked like..and the extent of it, but she never did!!

Good luck!!!
