I just got off the phone with someone who was looking for a wedding cake for her daughter. When I started mentioning pricing, she said she went to Stop & Shop and they quoted her $129.00 for a 3-tiered wedding cake that serves approx. 150 people.

I told her there is no way that I can match that price and good luck with the cake.

Am I crazy with my pricing or is she feeding me a line of shi*???

Honestly, i think she was trying to play you so that you could try to compete with that price. Good for you that you didn't. If Stop & Shop does do a 3 tier wedding cake for that price, I am sure that it is a very simple cake with very little decorations and not many cake and icing flavors to choose from. People don't realize what quality cakes cost to make and it's up to us not to compromise ourselves.

$129.00 for 150 people = 86 cents/ serving
There is no way I would be able to even start to cover my costs for that price.
But they can buy their ingredients in bulk, so their costs will be different than yours.
Good for you standing your ground! I say quality over quantity (or in this case price savings)

you're not crazy with your pricing. if she wants cheap cheap cake, let her have cheap, cheap cake. (not from you of course!)
