I am new to using fondant and would like to know what to do about the taste. I have been using Wilton's plain white, it says to add vanilla. I have tried that and I have brushed luster dust on with rum but it still tastes horrible!!! I love using it, but can not give or sell cakes that taste like kindergarten paste! Please help someone!!

Try Satin Ice it is more expensive but it tastes better. Also have you tired making MMF (Marshmellow Fondant) it taste pretty good. Wilton is the worst in my opinion but really fondant is an aquired taste so most people just peel it off. For most people it just looks pretty! Hope this helps!

Definitely the Satin Ice. It not only tastes better but is much easier to work with. The only thing worse that Wilton's Fondant is their GumPaste, in my opinion.

I think MMF tastes the best. You can also add many different flavors to it as well. I know some poeple use flavored coffee whiteners/cream. I have yet to try that though....

I'm a Satin Ice fan as well. But, MMF works well and tastes good also at a much cheaper cost. There are also several other brands (that I know):

Pettinice (sp?)
FondX
ChocoPan

I've tried FondX. I like the taste but found it a little difficult to work with. For me, it was very sticky but, others swear by it. Haven't tried the other two I listed yet.

I just got a 20lb tub of Satin Ice from Pfeil and Holing. It cost $55.50 plus shipping. The only problem is they don't calculate the shipping up front. But...the fondant itself is only $2.78/lb at that price, which is cheaper than what I've paid for Wilton. It's worth the extra $$$ to get a product that is really easy to work with and actually tastes good!

Satin Ice is my fave!!!! Tried Fondx and found that it crusted really quickly (old batch maybe). MMF works well for covering, but I've had trouble using it for things like swags/drapes...I can always get Satin Ice thinner.
