Wilton Cake Release Question

Hi Everyone! I'm still in the planning stages of making my first ever character cake. I have a question in regards to Wilton's Cake Release. I was curious to know if anyone has ever used it and if it trasfers a funny taste to your cake. I know if you use cooking spray for baking it takes horrible because it will transfer to the cake. Let me know what you think. Thanks icon_smile.gif

I haven't had any problems using Wilton's Cake Release and personally haven't noticed a change/transfer in taste at all.

I use the WIlton cake release all the time. No transfer of taste to the cakes. I love the stuff.

Is the cake release the stuff in the bottle that is like grease and flour in one, not the spray? If it is, that is all I use anymore. I LOVE IT!!! I always had trouble with my cakes sticking to the pan and this stuff fixed it! It's great! I have never noticed a funny taste with it. Give it a try, you'll never use anything else again!

I just got a bottle about a couple weeks ago, and its been a dream. I even used it for brownies and then slipped right out of the pan. No funny taste or texture, and I didn't find the edges burning or getting hard like my baking spray. Most defintely less crumbs.

I make and use a homemade version of cake release. It's equal amounts of oil, flour and crisco. Blended together, then stored in an airtight container. You brush it into the pan like the others. Haven't ever tasted it on the cakes.

TexasSugar, I heard good stuff about that recipe...isn't there one posted in the Recipes here?

Anyway, until I get a chance (or think about it before I actually need it!) to make my own, I will continue to use the Wilton Cake Release from the squeeze bottle. Don't they have it in a spray can now? Anyway, I love the stuff! I get perfect results every time. My character pans turn out perfectly with the Cake Release. I tried the old grease and flour method a month ago when I ran out of my Cake Release and I had to use my spatula to help it out of the pan...why come people have used this method for ages but when I try it it doesn't work?!

Cause diferent things work for different people. icon_wink.gif Isn't it a wonderful thing? HeHe. You will find some that swear by cake release, and others that swear by Pam Baking Spray, and then you have those that use parchement and nothing else.

That's the fun of cake decorating, finding what works best for ya. thumbs_up.gif

I use the homemade version too! Equal parts oil, flour and crisco....never had a problem! Much cheaper, no messy overspray and I never have to worry about running out of it because I always have those ingredients on hand!!
