At the last minute, I've been asked to make a circus cake for this Friday. I looked through the gallery, which has many great ideas, and came up with a plan.

The problem is that I can not find any circus cake decorations. I've looked at bakeries, Hobby Lobby, Michaels and Party City for the Wilton circus set. I had no luck!

Anyone have any tips?

My only thought was to purchase children toys (little people) circus set.

What ideas are looking to do on the cake? What about molding figures for your cake?

I need enough cake to serve 40 people. I'm thinking about a sheet cake with a stage. Here is the link of the ideas. All I need are the animals and I've never created animals out of fondant. I'm sure it could be done, but I wouldn't even know where to start.

I cannot get that link to open but if you need circus animals, did you try looking in the toy section. I find alot of stuff there. Can you do something with clowns?

I have seen a picture of a circus cake with decorated animal crackers or you could try decorated sugar cookies. Good Luck!

Excellent idea!

I plan on ordering from Wilton soon. I'd like to have some normal supplies on hand for the future. I really need to start working with fondant. I haven't even begun with that. I'm thinking it wouldn't be difficult, but man...I have so many questions.

Do you have a Michael's or Hobby Lobby there? If so, try to get some of your Wilton supplies when they have their sales. Hobby Lobby has 50% off on Wilton every so often and almost always has 40% off on one item weekly. Michael's has the 40% coupon also.

I have never worked with fondant either. My daughter has and she loves it but I have never been crazy about it. Guess I am just old fashion. icon_lol.gif

Diane,
That is too funny.

I have checked at M & HL. Usually the items I do not need, they have. So, when I went today, I picked up Safari animals, since they had them. I'm not sure when I'll need them, but just incase I do...I have them.

I just finished the cake! I'm pleased with it.

I'll post pictures soon.
