I have a question for anyone willing to answer. I don't know much about movies but love adding to our DVD collection. We have two small kids so don't get out much and hate paying the big bucks to go see a movie at the theater. So what we usually do is just buy them when they come out on DVD. Are there any movies, new OR old that you think are MUST HAVES? Or just tell me what your favorite movie is? Thanks! Anna
I agree, anything with Will Ferrell. DH and I like Kevin Smith movies (Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob, Clerks) but we have a warped sense of humor, they are pretty raunchy.
There's Something about Mary is hilarious.
The all time classic has to be...the Princess Bride. A classic love story that even guys love. You can't beat it!
My must haves are all old classics. Casablanca, Breakfast at Tiffany's, An Affair to Remember, Gone with the Wind, Princess Bride is great for adults and kids, Notebook is wonderful, Grease, Annie, I'm very cheesy!
Say Anything is a good one....Some kind of Wonderful is also one of my favorites as I am a product of being young in the 80's....
but the alltime best movie in the world, which I have seen no less than 40 times:
ROCKY
Also...
Rocky 2....fantastic
Rocky 3....terrific
Rocky 4....pretty good!
ok...stop there.....
Godfather 1 and 2 are also great...
Goodfellas
Vegas....
(can you tell I like the familia movies?)
One of the things I find so fascinating about CC is the incredible people that I get to correspond with from all over the US!!!! NYC! How cool! I looked at your cake pics Adven68! They totally blow me away! I am speechless, amazed, and in awe of your talent. I am not worthy! I agree, Rocky is a great movie!
Flavacakes! I love your, "Ya, you betcha!" Most of my family lives in Minesota, we are mostly Norweigen (spelling?) Had a blonde moment there! So that phrase gets thrown around alot at our family functions! So funny! Do you like Lefse? Have you ever made it before? Oops, I am getting off the subject of movies! Sorry! Anna

Yeah, I guess I'm pretty "Fargo", according to denise2434, she's my bud so it's okay! ![]()
And yes I like Lefse! I don't make it though, hubby's grandmp used to, I like it with butter and sugar. My family is pretty much all Norweigan too!
I just thought of 13 Going on 30. I think that's a cute movie, yah, you betcha! ![]()
We like it with butter and sugar to! A cousin of mine makes great lefse! Such a treat! He is my age, just turned 32. Fun to meet a fellow Norweigan! When I got married I hated giving up my last name, it was so clear where my family is from!
Have not seen that movie yet. I like Jennifer Garner, especially in Alias! Will have to check it out! Thanks!, Anna
You're 32? I'm 31. My maiden name was Vooge which I think came straight from Norway, my great grandparents couldn't even speak English, my entire family is full of Norwegians! Yah. ![]()

Thanks Anna! That was very sweet of you. I also think it's incredible that there are so many people brought together by cakes, of all things....but it's not national...it's international. We have Europeans, Australians, Asians...and more.....
Thanks again!
Irene
ooo this is fun!
Ditto on several already mentioned:
The Princess Bride
Office Space
Grease
13 Going on 30 is really cute
All Star Wars
And some of my other faves:
Spaceballs
Briget Jone's Diary (the first one is better than the second)
Fight Club
Beaches
Big Fish
Pirates of the Carribean
I better stop.
Do you have a Netflix or Blockbuster online subscription? We love it - but you can also buy used DVds for around 6 bucks from them too.
Well let's see....how about Steel Magnolias. Everytime I see that movie I cry. I also like Hope Floats. I guess I'm a sucker for a sappy movie.
Oh, yes, I forgot the Harry Potter movies! Although the later ones are a little scary for young children. Office Space is a great one, too.
Great family movies are Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Johnny Depp version is better, I think) the Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins
I love Shawshank Redemption for an inspirational one, also the Green Mile
I agree with Mae1118 about the execution scene. It was such a good movie though. I wish they could have come up with a different ending where they could figure out a way around having to do that! I actually have never seen Mary Poppins! I love Julie Andrews, I think the Sound of Music is a must have to! Anna
Oh yeah, Steel Magnolias is a must have!!
Anna, yes, well I used to be blonde. Seems the older I get the darker my hair gets!
Blue eyes of coarse! ![]()
Anna, I was actually thinking of the very graphic execution scene in the middle (the one where the mean warden "forgot" to use the sponge), but you are right, the end was difficult too. Such a good story, though. A lot of Stephen King's movies haven't been as good as his books, but that one worked well.
