Good Evening Everyone,
It the wilton yearbook 2006 on page 98 there are flowers done in fondant. 2 questions can I save them after use and how? Also any pointers on making these would be greatly appreciated. I am making this for my mother in laws 70th b day this month along with the cookies on the stick.Thanks Audrey

I'm not sure there would be a way to save them but I suppose you could try to wipe off excess icing and let them dry. They should be pretty easy to make just a bit tedious probably since the loops are so tiny. Once you form the loop turn it on it's side to dry so it will keep its shape. Also make extras and give yourself plenty of drying time!

I do not know how to do it, I just knwo you can do it, is to add gum paste or gum-tex to the fondant. It will make it rock hard. You will have to ask someone else the specifics. We were talking about it in class last week.

The directions are pretty straightforward in the yearbook but it's just tedious work since they are so small.

I keep lots of fondant/gumpaste pieces in airtight containers for use later or to keep them.

Do you want to save them just to save them or to use again later? Re-using these type of decos isn't recommended.

For some reason I though fondant dried hard. I tried making a flower and was able to construct it but when I went to pick it up it all fell apart, guess I'll find something else. I did let it dry for more than 24hrs too. UGH Trial and error thats how we learn!!! HAve a Nice Saturday Everyone

Fondant, especially mmf, will need to dry longer than 24 hours-sometimes up to a week or more depending on your humidity. Gumpaste will dry faster.
I leave my items on a powdered sugar dusted cookie sheet to dry.

DUHHHHHHHHH ME , never thought of a powered sugar cookie sheet. Believe me here in Buffalo there is NO HUMIDITY at this Time!!!!. THANKS for your help dodibug. My husband thinks I am nuts for trying to do this for HIS MOTHER anyways so maybe I'll move on to something easier and see what happens.

Adding gum-tex works great as a hardner. You don't need much...maybe a teaspoon to 2 cups of fondant.....
