When you make your MMF is it absolutely necessary to sift your powdered sugar?

Thanks!

I always do, otherwise, I get little lumps of sugar when I go to roll it out.

absolutely! i learned my lesson the hard way lol! i kept getting lumps and couldn't figure out why. fyi... use the dixie crystals brand rather than the cheapo wal-mart brand. i used it for months and still got lumps when i sifted it, then i used the dixie crystals and it was like a miracle. first it only took half as long to sift, second it was soooooo smooth. hope that saves you some time and elbow grease! icon_biggrin.gif

I don't sift my powdered sugar for MMF. I've found that it doesn't make a difference in regards to the little hard lumps*. The only thing that I've found that helps the little hard lumps is adding the powdered sugar very gradually, and kneading thoroughly.

* And I hate sifting anyway, so this works out well for me. icon_biggrin.gif

Great! That is just what I needed! Some varying opinions! (I'm not being sarcastic I swear!) I really wanted to hear what each person thought about it!
That really helps me out!

Thank you!

I never sift my powdered sugar for MMF and don't have any issues.
