I would suppose that it would depend on what size cake you are making. When I make a 11 x 15 sheet cake I use 2 cake mixes and 1 extender. It makes it just the right size.

lionladydi: This is going to sound like a really dumb question, but when you make the 11 X 15 cake, what size box do you put it in? I need to cut a board and can't remember the size of the box that I use and the cake boxes are at home and I am at work. TIA

Sorry, I've been gone to a Board meeting and just got home. I don't put mine in a box so can't help you there. My son cut me some boards that are about 13" x 18" and so far everyone has picked them up without them being in a box.
