You could make your own pearls the day of or before you need them and they will still be soft.

They really don't take a lot of time when you make them by hand. 
I did some for one of the cakes in my photos. I made them (and extras) in under 30 mins, including dusting them.
It's one of those good projects to do when you are sitting in front of the to TV watching your favorite show.
