Hello All! I want to order some pearls from Earlene's but her website says that her pearls are VERY HARD! Should this be? I've never had pearls before. Should they be really hard? I don't think I want to put hard pearls on a cake. Thanks - Kenya

She also sells soft-centered pearls that are handmade from fondant. They're much more expensive but no one will crack a tooth on them icon_wink.gif

The pearls are made from fondant. If you make them and let them really dry out they will be hard. I'm assumed her pearls are premade and are just mailed out, rather than being made for each order.

You could make your own pearls the day of or before you need them and they will still be soft.

The soft-centered ones are made to order and have to be kept frozen after delivery. I think making them yourself is a great idea if you have the time. They could also be made ahead and frozen.

They really don't take a lot of time when you make them by hand. icon_smile.gif I did some for one of the cakes in my photos. I made them (and extras) in under 30 mins, including dusting them.

It's one of those good projects to do when you are sitting in front of the to TV watching your favorite show.
