.....I know when doing a buttercream rose with a tip 103/104 you are to use a tip 12 to make the base, but what about if you are making small roses (tip 101) or VERY large roses, what coordingting tip do you use for the bases of them? icon_confused.gif

You could try a tip 10. I don't have this, so I would just use a tip 7, and apply more pressure.

i just use the rose tip and make a layered spiral with whatever tip i'm using. it saves having to go back and forth with bags

Personally, I am not fond of using BC for the base. I either use a piece of rolled fondant or gumpaste...or my favorite, a Hershey's Chocolate Kiss! Seems to work well with a vairety of sizes of roses....maybe not HUGE oens.

Hope this helps.

I tried using a mini marshmallow on a toothpick as a base the other day. It didn't go very well. I want to try it again, though, when I have more time.

I use only one tip to make a rose whatever size it is. It works great!

I had a cake teacher that told us to use stale mini-marshmallows for the base. Kinda grossed me out that someone would bite into a bc rose & get a mouthful of stale marshmallow. ewww

The Hershey's kiss does not show through the buttercream? I'll have to try that.
