I know there are several posts on this, but I didn't want to search through all of them, so I will just get right down to my question. How can I get a red for Spiderman without using red kool-aid? I used it once and the kids didn't even like the taste. I have to make a Spiderman cake for this weekend and I have Americolor, but to get a true red, I had to add uite a bit. Any advice, please give me any tips you have. TIA

I always add pink first so you don't need as much red.

Thanks angelcakesmom, I will try that tonight
Do you just make your buttercream and add pink or do you make the chocolate buttercream

Excuse me if I may ask my red question on your red thread. I have Wilton no taste red and Wilton red. I need to do balloons on a sheet cake.

1. How do I get Wilton colors red?
2. Do I need the Kool-Aid?
3. What is the difference between Americolor and Wilton colors?

I am kinda new here. Thanks for letting me butt in. I appreciate it.

Well, when I used kool aid, it was so nasty the kids wouldn't eat it. I am trying the pink and then red, but I don't think think it is getting red like I want. I hate to do a cake with red. Americolor is really good and doesn't take as much as the Wilton, but I am still haveing the problem with my red. I know that it darkens on the cake, so I have my fingers crossed. I thought about making the chocolate and then adding red, but I am not sure. I may play with it tonight. Does anyone have any experience doing that?

With Americolor you will need to use much less than when using Wilton. I have done a few things with maroon/burgundy and by the time I got the color halfway decent with Wilton it tasted too gross to eat.

I've never tried the Kool-Aid or starting with chocolate, sorry.
