Can you use these "dusts" on all types of icing? FOndant, BC, royal etc? Never used it but I was considering using it on an upcoming cake with buttercream.

You can use it on buttercream, but you have to use a crusting recipe...and make certain it's well crusted before applying the dust. And, you have to use a light touch, so as not to break through the crust. But, it certainly can be done!

It works fine on all of those. For dry dusting, I personally think it works best on fondant or royal. For buttercream, paint it on wet by mixing it with a form of alcohol like vodka, rum or even lemon extract.

i thought these weren't really to eat, just for decoration... are there dusts that can be eaten?

Yes, there sure are. They are non toxic dusts. The supply store I get mine from have both though. Just be sure the little bottle says " NON TOXIC" on it. The other kind is for decoration purposes only.
