I've seen people post several times about having cookies drying all over the house when they had large orders. I'm facing a potential order of several hundred cookies, and this problem was haunting me. Where in the world would I store the things during decoration and drying???? I hit upon a solution.

We have a concession stand here at work, and we sell 20 ounce sodas. They are delivered by the case in hard plastic trays. Those trays are VERY sturdy and interlock so that they stack in a very stable manner. You can stack at least a dozen or more of them without any wobbling at all. Probably more, but that's all I have on hand, so I can't really say.

When they're stacked, there is about 2.5 inches of free space between each one. (This is hard to describe, sorry. ) Plenty of clearance for cookies, that's for sure! I'm going to run these through the top shelf of the dishwasher, since they're kind of dirty, and stack 'em high in a corner of the dining room. I should be able to fit hundreds of cookies in them The floor space taken up by these things is just 18" X 24". They're full of "holes" so the air will circulate beautifully.

I'm going to use these things to dry gumpaste flowers, too. One reason I hadn't done a lot of gumpaste is the drying issue. No SPACE!!!!

I am so excited to have come up with this solution to a very real problem for me. I've seen these things stacked behind supermarkets and convenience stores. Maybe you could get someone to sell you a few - or maybe even lend you a few, if they don't want to get rid of them permanently. Heck...maybe your local bottling company would sell a few.

Anyway....thought I'd share.

I was just thinking of posting my idea for drying multiple cookies. Great minds think alike! icon_smile.gif

My son has these storage bins from Ikea that slide in grooves in this wooden frame. You will have to use your imagination. It's basically just a rectangle with grooves cut in where the edges of the storage bins slide in and out. Well I was thinking, if I put wood dowels in there instead of grooves, then I could slide cookie sheets on the dowels. This would be an easy build too; just a rectangle and some square dowels nailed in. I could put multiple "layers" so if I had something tall, then I just skip that row of dowels and put them on the next one down, etc. I'll post a pic of the storage bin thingy. Maybe it will make more sense. LOL!

I think you found a cheaper way of doing it. I love finding ways to make what might have been junk something useful. My hubby does not agree with me on this. LOL!

At the kitchen store here I found racks that stack on each other. Maybe if you search the web...you could find something like this. I am actually looking into one of those commercial bakery racks...I just have to be able to justify the price- icon_eek.gif

That reminds me....I have these 3 racks that are meant to go on those wire closet organizers. We moved out of that apartment into a 1920's house that barely has any closets, so haven't been ujsing them. I was looking at them and they do stack on one another, so I might be able to put my cookie trays on them too. Another money saving idea since I already have them and they are just sitting in the basement. *light bulb going off*
