Hey everyone, I am using mmf for the first time today (on a practice cake) I am wanting to use it on a baby shower cake for thursday. my question is: How long after putting the mmf onto the cake can it just sit before sitting? I mean could I do the cake wednesday, let it sit overnight and it would be fine? Does it firm up and get hard on the cake? I have only used regular fondant a couple of time and only on dummy cake and it gets almost rock hard on the styrofoam, so I wasn't sure what would happen when it is on an actual cake. Please let me know your experiences. thanks to all
good question! I would love to know that! I guess though if you store in a box it should be fine.
I've found that MMF is much softer then the regular fondant. You would be fine to put it on the cake the day before.
I made a mmf covered cake on Saturday and didn't eat it until Wednesday. It was still really good. I had even put it in the refrigerator. I just let it come back to room temp and it was still yummy. HTH
I frequently do cakes in steps,1. bake, freeze, (can be up to 2 weeks early), 2. thaw, tort, fill, crumb coat, and then 3. fondant. This might be over a couple of days. The next day (after putting the fondant on the cake) I start to decorate. I've had to take 2 full days to apply all the decorations and tiers. Never had a problem. (Just be sure the cake is well protected by the crumb coat and the fondant.)
thank you very much, I just wanted to make sure. I guess it just gets so hard on the dummy cake because there is really no moisture under there.?
