I turned down a cake order for today for a collegue's birthday luncheon. I just didn't have the time. Plus, the girl who ordered it wanted a fruit filling and wouldn't listen to my suggestions on what flavors went well together. Besides not having the time, I just didn't like that girl and was not wanting a bad order experience that I saw coming.
I probably could have found the time, but I'm just not willing to do a cake that I haven't done before that I haven't properly researched on CC and knowing that IN FACT that it'll hold up my reputation for making YUMMY cakes. I was worried that the other baker would steal my clients. About 8-10 people at the luncheon are regular clients of mine, so I didn't want the other baker to One-Up my baking. But, I risked it.
Well.....I got TWO calls today at work from people that attended the luncheon. I couldn't go myself because I was tied up in appointments and my assistant was on vacation. They called just to tell me that the cake that they got sucked! And I was SO happy!
I know that I should be ashamed, but I'm not. They further commented on the disgusting filling that tasted like straight-up jelly and the frosting that tasted like Crisco with sugar in it. They both said that the cake itself was moist, but the filling and frosting ruined it. I just told them thanks for liking my cakes, but of course I didn't say anything tacky! I saved that for this post!!!
Anyone else as petty as I am?
is it right to feel happy about it? probably not, but we're all human, and i would probably feel the same! glad everyone loves your cakes!
Nope, you call your own shots because you know what you can and cannot do. I should have said no last week, but didn't and paid for it with the time factor. You know, AR report/EOM deadlines/ yada, yada....
Oh, to just be able to do cakes would be fun...
But no you just care for the integrity of your cakes, that's not a bad thing... and having people miss your's is also not a bad thing....
