Help Needed: Welcome Cake

My sister in law is adopting two girls from Brazil and I'd like to make a cake for them when they arrive. I need ideas on a Welcome cake. Any suggestions? They are 9 and 10 yrs old. I'd love some links to photos! icon_smile.gif

I looked up the translation for "welcome home" in Portuguese, the official language of Brazil and it is, "Lar bem-vindo". Maybe you could work with that somehow?

Thanks Kos! But I was looking more for a different cake shape.. I didn't want to do just a round or squared cake. I was thinking maybe something 3D or a built cake, not just a simple one... Either way, I can always write Welcome home on it! icon_wink.gif

You could do the brazil flag attached to the american flag or something...(if you are from the states that is!)

Do you have any knowledge of what their intersts are??? It seems like you might be able to do a shaped cake depending on what they might like.

The other thing I am picturing is maybe making a 3D house cake saying welcome home. icon_smile.gif

Congrats to your family with the adoption! What about a half a globe shaped cake (a big pyrex bowl) with north and south america maybe out of fondant. Maybe with a paper flags for Brazil and the US? You could probably do the whole globe if you were so inclined (2 medium pyrex shaped cakes put together).

Or shape 2 sheet cakes into North and South America. With a welcome sign over where you live?

Hope you come up with a great cake and are able to post it!

I'll post a picture when I make it. They should arrive in the US in the first week of Feb.
