After all my questions and a LOT of help and an entire day straight of working on it, its finally done.
My kitchen and dining room are trashed, lol. After this cake it will be a wondering if I ever bake again!!
Its a dark chocolate fudge cake filled with Baileys whipped chocolate ganache. The bucket is painted with lustre dust, and the "ice" is cake sparkles. The label is fondant, the writing is wilton colour paste mixed with a little vodka.

Thank you to everyone that pm'ed me and answered my post with help, advice, and encouragement. This sure was an undertaking!
Woo hoo! You did it!!! ![]()
That looks wonderful and I know your Aunt will be deeply touched when she gets it. Your poured your heart and soul into this cake and it shows. You should be very proud of yourself!
Congratulations!!!!
Thank you so much for all the nice replies!
Siealy, I made the champagne glass from a 2 piece chocolate mould, and melting chocolate. Same for the bottle. It took me about 3 different days, and an unholy number of attempts before I got it, lol.
I should put it in cake disasters, but I was ready to hang up my apron with this one. It gave me nothing but grief. The fondant I made last night was hard as a rock. I didn't even put in the full amount of icing sugar and it was so dry. I had to microwave it at least 4 times, I added shortening over and over, kneaded it, but it still was full of cracks. Finally I got it to where it was at least okay, and I put it on my cake...and it ripped on the sides. So i tried to just push the pieces together but it wouldn't work. Okay, so I'll just pull the fondant off....and most the buttercream freaking came with it! ![]()
So that whole batch of fondant went in the garbage, the cake went back into the freezer. I made up a new batch, and didn't let it sit before rolling it out. I was more then happy for it to be that pliable.
I am really bad at getting the fondant smooth, I always end up with a pleat
I was really unhappy with it really. The lustre dust gave it a bit of pizazz at least. I hope my Aunt likes it, I was afraid that a grocery store cake would be freaking better then this at one point, lol.
I'm still a real beginner, hopefully I improve soon!
Lovely, she will be thrilled and you will be soooo proud looking at her face when she sees it that you'll forget the thrashed kitchen and Dining Room and say to yourself, "Next time, I'll ........
Have fun at the party!
Your cake is FABULOUS!!! Your Aunt is going to love it ![]()

great job! love the wat the bottle looks.. you aunt is going to be thrilled!
Wonderful! How are you going to be able to handle cutting into it?
Thanks again everyone ![]()
Yeah I got to cut it, it was a little tricky thats for sure! The pieces were huge! I was amazed that most my family liked the fondant, my 7 year old neice came up and asked "for a piece with bucket on it", lol. I said, "well here, you better try it first" but she said she already had and wanted more! I'm not crazy about fondant but just love the way it looks
My Aunt loved the taste, she said she hadn't tried mmf yet. She really liked the cake, and said I did an amazing job. Everyone was Ohhhing and ahhhing over it, my grandma didn't want to cut it! My grandmother gave me money for making it, I tried to give it back but she wouldn't let me
She said that I saved her a lot of worry and she appreciates what I did (I guess she was going to buy a cake before I said I would). I feel a little guilty for her giving me money but am very thankful. I think I may use it to buy more baking toys ![]()
Theres a lot of things I would have done differently, (like dowelling it) and using a pound cake(the cake I choose was much too moist), but i'm glad it went over really well.
I couldn't have done it without everyone's help, thank you guys so much, this is why I love this site so much! ![]()
