Today I got a pending order for a non-traditional wedding cake in May, which will be a 3D vase with tulips in it. The cake is to serve around 50. I am fine with the vase part...but I looked online and the only gumpaste premade tulips I found were probably going to end up being too small as a 50 serving vase is going to be fairly large. Soooo I think I have to make them!

I haven't really done gumpaste flowers but the tulips don't look hard. Actually they kinda look like they are done in an egg carton or something. Anyway my biggest question is what tips I should know, and how to attach the wire, and what kind of wire to get so that I can get a heavy tulip to stand right where I want it. And any other info about this gumpaste flower idea. (And if anyone knows where to buy large gumpaste tulips, especially in the color purple, although I have an airbrush, it would be awesome!)

Thanks!

I would be happy to send you the instructions for making gumpaste tulips, they really aren't difficult to make. The thing is, you need certain gumpaste tools to make them, cutters, although you could draw a pattern I suppose. But three of the inside petals are rolled on a ridged cel board for wiring. You also need a foam cel mat and a ball tool for softening and slightly ruffling the petals. Here is a link to what I consider a basic gumpaste tool kit. And a picture of some of the gumpaste Tulips I have made, they are life sized or nature sized. If you would like the instructions please pm me your email address, don't include it in a post for privacy sake.
