My post from this morning disappeared... icon_confused.gif

I'm making 150 chocolate covered oreos for a baby shower in June (50 white, 50 dark, 50 milk). I hope someone here will have an answer for me. Here are my questions...

- How far in advance can I make the cookies if I were to store them air-tight in a cool, dry place?

- how many cookies will one pound of candy melts cover?

- Can I use DRY luster/pearl dust on the chocolate to highlight some of the details on the mold?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Can't help you with the first two q's but for that last one, the answer is yes, you can (and should! It would definitely make them pop!). thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif

When I used the Oreo molds, I used quite a bit more chocolate than when just dipping them. I think I used to get a pound bag of Oreos dipped with the bag of CandyMelts. I don't know how much you'll need, but it will be more than that. I would think they'll keep for quite a while, too. We keep Oreos in the fridge, and they stay fresh for weeks.

I have kept them in tupperware for 3 weeks and they've been just fine, so I'm sure they would last longer (my family has never let them last longer than that!!!). I cannot get a whole package of Oreos dipped with a pound of melts. I think it takes me about 1 1/2 lb per package. I can't even tell you how many are in a package.

And, I LOVE luster dust on chocolate. It really makes them look pretty and festive. I luster dusted the chocolates in my photos-the white chocolate had pearl dust and the milk had gold and pearl.

Thank you!! I thought I would be able to make ahead and store (as long as I hide them from my husband) but I just wanted to make 100% sure. And now I can't wait to go home and give them a try. And I'm glad I can do the luster dust. That's going to look awesome.

Thanks for the help!

If I wrap each oreo individually, they last a long time! They are covered in chocolate so that kind of seals in the cookie.
I use sandwich cookie molds and I get 16-18 cookies per bag of Wilton candy melts. ( Took a while to figure that out!) (It varies on how much I squeeze out of the bag but usually 16)
I also use luster dust on them. Works great!

when i make choc. covered oreos at christmas time i will start 2-3 weeks ahead and put them in an airtight container and freeze them. They taste just as good as made fresh.

I just worked for a chocolate candy company and one of their products was chocolate covered oreos. They were packaged and on the shelves for over a month and still tasted fresh. They were packaged in 4's and 6's in a clear top box and tied with a ribbon. The chocolate helps keep the cookie fresh.

Hope this helps!

Cookie4, how much did the 4 & 6 pack sell for, and was there a problem with the price as far as the customers making complaints, or did they just buy them because they wanted them? Thanks.

I sold the 4-pack for $6 and can't remember how much the 6-pack was. I thought it was a little too expensive and I noticed that they didn't sell very well. They had a few orange decorations sprinkled on top and they reminded me of Halloween, actually I thought they might even be left over from Halloween. But I must say, they were very good.

No, nobody complained about them at all because it was Valentines and chocolate dipped strawberries were really in demand.
