i'm doing a meal for a neighbor that just got oout of the hospital. he has two kids, one boy and one girl that are pre-teen, early teen. i want a cake to go with the meal, but something fun, NOT a get well. they lost their mom a few years ago, so i think they've had enough. i've got NO ideas. given their age, i can't do it too juvenile and there's one boy and one girl, so i can't do just a boy thing or a girl thing! help icon_confused.gif

if you want something just plain and simple..how about a smiley face ?? this would serve the purpose to cheer them up and is generic . there was also and M&m cake posted yesterday that would be cute and generic.

What a nice thought. They are lucky to have such a caring neighbor!

I really don't have a brilliant suggestion, but I figured I could at least bump you up.

The one idea I do have is maybe something with fish or sailboats or something? I'm thinking that because real fish tanks are supposed to lower your blood pressure and there's just something calming and soothing about water. I wish I had a better idea for you--I bet you'll think of something, I looked at your photo's and your cakes are very lovely!

how about a house, or something related to the neighborhood that you live in? Maybe something that resembles their house?

I just went through the galleries to try to get some ideas, here were a couple I found

I think its very kind and thoughtful of you to do this for your neighbour, I am sure he and his children will very much appreciate it!

thanks for all the ideas, i may do the house thing and say, glad you're home, something like that? i have the stand up house pan and i've been dying to make it. i'm fortunate to live on a good street, whenever someone has a crisis or has a baby, the neighbors get together and do meals and stuff.

It looks like it! icon_redface.gif Sorry, I meant to put that I did not make this cake. Just another in my favorites, but no one from this site. I could't remember where I found it to give credit where credit is due.
