Hi there - I was planning on using edible glitter to get the look of sequins but I thought I would ask if any had any other better ideas to get this look. It's for a cake that looks like a piece of clothing with sequins. thanks!
you can do it with edible dragees. They come in different colors including gold and silver.
They also come in rainbow colors.
Are you covering the cake with fondant or BC? If you're doing it in fondant then you can make flat dots with royal, let them dry and then paint with luster dust. If BC then you could use dragees or make flat fondant disks and paint those with luster dust and apply those. I would make those in advance so they will be ready to put on after your get the final smooth coat of BC on your cake. They will stick better if the BC isn't allowed to crust first!!!
Aren't Dragees round like beads ? Sequins are flat..what I would do is to crush some edible glitter and then make small rounded groups like the size of sequins, but make sure they are sticking together..
I thought sequins are both flat and round
In that acse, you can buy falt disc shaped tiny candy sequins and cover then with a luster dust for a sheen.
Where can you get candy sequins??
Thanks for all the responses. I'm not sure if sequins come in 3d round shapes, but I need to create the flat round ones so the dragees probably won't work. Talking head, where can I find the candy sequins? They sounds like they could be perfect!
Hi, I have a cake in my gallery (Mother's Day Tshirt) where I made little flower discs from pink MMF and then put pink lustre dust on them. Took lots of little flowers, but it turned out pretty nice. HTH. Janice
