Practicing Fondant Dummy Cake Or Real???

My goal is to master fondant this spring

To practice do I need to use real cake or will it work to buy a dummy to practice on?

If I master a small cake is it reasonable to think I can do a large tier or should I also practice those also???

You can practice on a dummy. I personally would master the smaller and then work my way up.

I'm so glad you asked that, i've been thinking about that for the past week!! I made the marshmallow fondant this weekend and tried it on a small cake and it turned out great, but I know I didn't roll it thing enough.

You can also practice on the back of a pan. I like my 3 inch pans for this. Then go to a small real cake, real cake covers differently then a dummy or a pan. Just remember to have fun with it.
