Tracey1974 must have been very serious about going, she is not listed as a member of CC at this time.

I've been around for a little while, may not have posted as much as some of you but I do read a lot of the posts. I usually try to stay out of the controversial stuff but I think I will say something this time.
I have to agree with JanH. It sounds like a bunch of high school girls going on and on. Really is sad that you all would make somebody feel so bad about not posting the pic. I'm sure you didn't intentionally try to make Tracy feel this way but look at it from a different point of view. I know I was intimitated when I first came here by all of the talent.
I would also like to say that you were not laughing "with" her but you WERE laughing "at" her mistake of not posting a pic.
Some people may be sensitive, so lets keep that in consideration.
Treat others as you would like to be treated....is that how the saying goes?
I was welcomed very warmly when I first joined as I'm sure were a lot of you so lets keep that going....
Poking fun at somebody's innocent mistake is not what I would call funny.

Everyone is just silly icon_lol.gif ! We all need a good laugh sometimes...it is fun to giggle about mistakes when the arent mean spirited. That is why we have the disasters forum right? I dont think anyone was intentionally trying to poke fun at the poster, just having fun debating who made the invisible cake! Let's just have fun!!

Well put. I just have to say because of the whole silly thing, we may have possibly lost one of the most helpful members here at CC. I consider JanH a good CC buddy and I'm sorry that she may not want to come back. Gibson (Tammy) had it right--it was Tracy's mistake of not posting a pic that was being laughed at. I guess everyone was lucky that "she's a cool chick with a sense of humor just like us." You don't ever know that until people have been around for awhile and get to know their posting style. Yes people are sensitive--that is part of life. Some poeple are easy going and let stuff roll right off their back. But how do you know how someone is if they are fairly new? I'll tell ya'll right now, I am the Queen of tactlessness (gee is that even a word? icon_lol.gif ), but I guess I did not find the whole string funny. I'm glad that Tracy was able to find it funny, but I'm sorry that we may be down agood member because of it.

Thankfully, she has a sense of humor and she's back. I agree-that makes her cool.
There was nothing mean-spirited about the thread. It was hilarious.

oh geez...........yet another example of how we forget to assume the best in people.... we automatically assume they are rude, hateful, etc

I was one of the "offenders" and I thought I was letting Tracy know that there were plenty of us that really did want to help....

I seriously doubt we LOSE any members over this, cake central is way too well loved.

Did I miss something? Why would JanH leave because she thought we were making fun of Tracy....which I truly believe we weren't. =D
I agree with mkerton, cc is way to addicting to just up and leave over nothing.

I see what I "missed", when I read that I figured she meant she was 'outta here' as in out of this discussion/thread.

I did not mean my comment in a mean way. I know that if I were her I would be like "Ya, I finally have a thread that people are responding too!!" I myself have posted threads that have not recieved many responses and would think finally I came up with one. The thing about the computer is that you only read the responses and cannot hear the tone of voice that people are using to know that the person is just joking or making fun. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for being a good sport Tracy!!!

Only 3 posts received 10 or more responses; the "Who Did This Cake" having garnered 61 and counting.

If I were Tracy1974, I would never come back to this board.

Imagine being a member for less than 2 months and being made the butt of the biggest joke of the year.

There's nothing funny about making someone else feel bad.

My, isn't that a Big CC Welcome, we can all be proud of.

JanH,

Please don't blame the member's for someone being thin skinned. I have been a member in one way or another for almost 2 years and most of my posts or questions are totally ignored...except for a very few...and I thank you ...and you JanH you have always supported me.

But, sometimes we members need to blow off some steam...and as long as it's in a good natured way, there is no harm in it.

The members where laughing with her not at her..and they are still encouraging her to come and post her question.

If she chooses not to come back because she made a little oppsie that made us give a good natured giggle..it's really her loss.

There is a warm, community here....even with the bickering and snide remarks and hidden insults....we still support each other..just like a great big dysfunctional family.

And..we do accept new members to this crazy quilt called Cake Central...so..again

I HOPE..with all my heart she sees the gest for what it was, good natured ribbing....and comes back. thumbs_up.gif

I've probably entered this too late to weigh in, but due to the posting that you've left, I felt I had to read the thread that started it all. I have to say I agree with you JanH, in that ADULTS shouldn't be acting like preteens. We are fortunate that Tracy1974 was able to view the thread as funny and could shrug it off ( Many Newbies wouldn't be able to I'm sure). However, it would have been so much kinder if that first or even second person had simply said, " The picture didn't come through. If you pm me I can tell you how to post it." What concerns me about this thread is that other newbies can view it and come away with a negative impression about CC. We're here to support each other and I can understand JanH why you feel you'd need to leave. That said, I'm asking you to please stay. You've given this forum not only your knowledge and research skills, but integrity, respect, and compassion through your example of a CCer. For us to grow in a caring and responsible manner we need more like you. We can't afford to lose you, so please reconsider. Karen

I think you all took a joke to a next level. This is one of the dumbest threads that I've seen. It wasn't mean or vindictive. Maybe the people offended by this have been around cakes too long and are breathing in too much flour and powder sugar.
If she was offended she wouldn't have gotten back on and posted another picture. You have too much time on your hands!

I think that those of us who were following the thread had actually clicked on it to help with the question! I know I kept think the person would be coming back any minute to post the picture or to tell us where we might find it. The thread wasn't entitled 'click here to tease a newbie', it was titled 'who did this cake?'

Those of you who didn't click on the thread until too late perhaps weren't interested in finding out what this person wanted help with. Something to consider before you continue to put down the members who kept this thread going.

Is anyone considering the feelings of those of us who did post on this thread? Has anyone read it with other than an accusatory attitude? Go back and read it in the spirit in which it was written, and perhaps you will be able to see another point of view.

I'd be so bold as to say that we are valuable members of this board, too. I know I try to answer questions as much as possible or at least point people in the right direction to find answers. I think some people don't like newer people coming in and having the nerve to offer advice and having fun here while we do it.

I'm sorry but I won't be beaten up here. I don't understand how some of you don't see that you are doing the same thing you are accusing others of.

Personally, I think this never should have gone this far, and I wish it could just be dropped. But I'm also not going to accept the ridicule and being talked about like I'm some kind of delinquent. Nor is it ok to that to others I consider cyber-friends.

I have to agree SophieBelle. I have really tried to stay out of the drama involving all this, hoping it would be dropped, but it just can't be let go. I most certainly am having difficulty seeing where the insult was in my first post to tracy.

As stated above, too much time...this is becoming a joke in itself.

I didn't intend on hurting anyone's feelings as far as those who posted on the original thread. If I have then I'm truly sorry. I actually hadn't known what was going on and so did go back to the original post to read it through. I then read the one which Tracy1974 started with the picture posted. I know all was said in good fun, but as someone else said in this thread and even a moderator (Stephanie214) has reiterated, people do leave. Are they thin skinned? I don't know and don't care. They have value to the forum and I'd rather they stay. If it means watching our tongues then I'm willing to do so.

Sophiebelle....the only thing I will comment on is that some of us (like me) icon_smile.gif just weren't able to join in for lack of time, not because of disinterest....otherwise....you hit the nail right on the head, baby!

Holy cow...I can't believe the energy that went into this thread. (make that threads!!!) ....obviously the OP was ok with it....which means that other newbies probably would be, too. Some very dedicated members joined in on the fun. How could one possibly think there was anything negative about the jesting? I, for one, who happens to be a very sensitive person, was laughing through the whole thread until the first mention of "stop laughing at her" came along......then I just rolled my eyes and said....gimme a break!! What will keep newbies away is all this negativity.

I think the reason this has become such a long, drawn out conversation over several threads is that this is not a new issue. It was just brought to the forefront yesterday.

As I said in another post, let's all un-bunch our panties and get on with learning about cake (after we wash our hands, of course!)
